Obituary for Yllka Varfi (Kurshumi)

Yllka (Kurshumi) Varfi, the only daughter of the late Sanije Merdani and Isuf Kurshumi, passed away on February 14th, 2017. A resident of Revere, Massachusetts, she was formerly from Tirana, Albania. Beloved mother of Elonia and Mirana Varfi. Respected mother-in-law of Andy Skillen. Dear sister of Besnik, Genc and Artan Kurshumi. Admired sister-in-law of Zamira, Mimoza and Enkeleda Kurshumi. Cherished cousin of many. Also survived by loving nephews and nieces, as well as extended family members and friends. Yllka was a classically trained violinist and played with the Albanian Radio-Television Symphony Orchestra for over two decades. She performed both nationally and internationally before immigrating to the United States, where she subsequently joined the New England Philharmonic. In addition, Yllka worked at Brigham and Women’s Hospital for nearly twelve years. She was the first Unit Coordinator to be honored with the BWH Administrative Support Award for her outstanding work ethic and devotion to helping patients and their families, nurses, doctors and co-workers.
Family and friends will honor Yllka’s life by gathering at Vazza's “Beechwood” Funeral Home, 262 Beach St, REVERE, on Friday February 17th from 4 to 8 PM, and again on Saturday
February 18th at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. A bereavement meal will be held afterwards at Rosaria, 190 Main St, Saugus, from 12 to 4 PM.
