Obituary for Frank A. Durante

Frank A. Durante, 89 years of age, of East Boston, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016.

Cherished son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Doria) Durante. Loving brother of Marie Gulla of FL and her late husband Frank Gulla, Joseph Durante and his wife Janice of Saugus and the late Clara Cino and Salvatore Durante and his wife Evelyn. Frank is also survived by his brother-in-law William Cino and many loving nieces and nephews.

Frank was a 40 year member and past President of the Kiwanis Club, Kiwanian of the year in 2000, founder of the Kiwanis Senior Picnic, Controller of Suffolk Downs, member and past President of K-Trust, past President and Treasurer of the East Boston Chamber of Commerce, founder of Christmas Party for the Special Needs Kids, member of East Boston Grace Church Food Pantry Drive, Board Member of East Boston Health Clinic, Board Member of East Boston YMCA, part owner of Meridian Insurance Agency and Consolidated Financial Services in East Boston, Treasurer of the Board of the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, Board Member of the Economic Development Council which includes Main Street Initiative, volunteer at the Don Orione Nursing Home and the Annual Elderly Thanksgiving Day Dinner, serves on the Eastie Pride Day Committee, member of the St. Francis Council, Knights of Columbus and the Winthrop Lodge of Elks, active supporter of Italia Unita, active member of the Freedoms Foundation and the Greenway Council, served on the Columbus Day Civic Committee for which he received the “1996 Man of the Year Award” and the “1991 Community Award". He was an active parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and served on the Parish Council along with being the Treasurer of its St. Vincent DePaul Society and a member of the Holy Name Society. Frank graduated from East Boston High and attended Bentley College where he received his CPA. He is a WWII Army Veteran.

Family and friends will honor Frank’s life by gathering in Vazza’s “Beechwood” Funeral Home, 262 Beach St. REVERE on Thursday, September 29th from 4PM to 8PM and again at 830AM Friday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church in East Boston for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated in his honor at 10AM. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank’s memory to the East Boston K-Trust, PO Box 503 East Boston, MA 02128.
